Moving From Florida to Boston

Boston is the most common New England destination for Florida relocations, and it has some of the most restrictive building access rules in the country. Back Bay and Beacon Hill brownstones have narrow stairwells, tight corners, and limited truck parking. Downtown high-rises require freight elevator reservations, COI documentation, and loading dock scheduling.

September 1 is the busiest moving day in Boston because most residential leases in the city turn over on that date. If your move falls near September 1, book at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead. Outside that window, 3 to 4 weeks of lead time is sufficient during peak season.

Safebound is a registered carrier (a licensed carrier), so the crew that loads your belongings in Florida is part of Safebound's operation. No handoffs to third-party companies during transport.

Moving to Connecticut, Rhode Island, and the Rest of New England

Hartford and Stamford, CT. Connecticut destinations along I-95 are the closest New England cities from Florida, roughly 1,200 miles. Stamford's high-rise buildings near the train station require COI and elevator coordination. Hartford's residential neighborhoods offer straightforward driveway access. Delivery window: 4 to 6 business days.

Providence, RI. Approximately 1,350 miles from South Florida. Providence's East Side has older homes with narrow streets, while the suburbs offer standard single-family access. Delivery window: 4 to 6 business days.

Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. Northern New England destinations add 100 to 300 miles beyond Boston. Rural properties may have gravel driveways or seasonal road restrictions during winter months. Confirm access conditions with the crew coordinator before moving day. Delivery window: 5 to 7 business days.

Preparing for a Florida-to-New England Move

Downsize before the walkthrough. Long-distance pricing is volume-based. Every item you remove lowers the cost.

COI and building coordination. If you're leaving a South Florida condo, submit the COI request 5 to 10 business days before your move date. Safebound provides COI documentation within 24 hours at no charge. Confirm move-in requirements at your New England destination as well.

Insurance. Safebound carries $750,000 in coverage on every interstate move. Federal law requires carriers to offer Released Value Protection at $0.60 per pound per item at no additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a move from Florida to New England cost?

The cost depends on shipment volume and destination. Connecticut destinations are roughly 1,200 miles from South Florida, while Maine can exceed 1,500 miles. A 2-bedroom apartment typically measures 400 to 600 cubic feet. Safebound provides a written quote after an inventory walkthrough. Call 561-510-7191 for a specific estimate.

How long does a move from Florida to New England take?

Delivery timelines vary by destination: Connecticut 4 to 6 business days, Rhode Island 4 to 6 business days, Massachusetts 5 to 7 business days, and northern New England (Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine) 5 to 7 business days. Safebound provides a delivery window during the booking process.

Is $100 per person a good tip for movers?

For a long-distance move, $100 per mover is generous and reflects excellent service on a difficult job. For local moves, $20 to $40 per mover is standard. Base the amount on job difficulty, including stairs, heavy items, and total hours. Tips are not required but are appreciated for good work.

What items will movers not pack?

Federal regulations prohibit movers from transporting hazardous materials including propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinner, pool chemicals, and ammunition. Perishable food and open liquids also cannot go on the truck. Drain fuel from lawn equipment before moving day and transport jewelry, cash, and medications in your own vehicle.

When should I avoid moving to Boston?

September 1 is the busiest moving day in Boston because most residential leases turn over on that date. Moving companies book weeks in advance, street parking for trucks is extremely limited, and building elevators are in constant demand. If possible, schedule your move for mid-month or choose a date outside the August 15 to September 15 window.

Does Safebound use subcontractors for New England moves?

Safebound is a licensed carrier (USDOT 2900155) that operates its own fleet of trucks and employs its own moving crews. Your shipment is handled by Safebound's own crews during transport. Verify at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.

How far in advance should I book a move to New England?

Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for moves during peak season from May through September. If your move falls near September 1 in the Boston area, book at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead because that date is the busiest moving day in the city. Off-season moves from October through April can typically be scheduled within 2 to 3 weeks. Call 561-510-7191 to check availability.

Can I store belongings during a Florida-to-New England move?

Yes. Safebound operates 95,000 square feet of storage space in South Florida. If your New England destination is not ready on your move-out date, the crew loads your belongings into storage and delivers when the destination is available. Storage rates start at $0.40 per cubic foot per month. Contact 561-510-7191 for storage availability and pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Don't let unanswered questions hold you back. Let's extinguish those burning questions!

Is my move price guaranteed?

In many cases, yes. Your move price can be guaranteed if your estimate is based on accurate information and the services do not change. Safebound Moving & Storage offers flat-rate and binding estimates designed to give you a clear, predictable cost for your move so you know what to expect before moving day.

A guaranteed price depends on the details provided during the quoting process, including the inventory list, pickup and delivery locations, access conditions, and any additional services such as packing or storage. When this information is correct and the scope of the move stays the same, the price listed on your estimate will not change.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Safebound Moving & Storage is fully licensed and insured to perform both local and long-distance moving services. We operate in compliance with state and federal regulations, including registration with the U.S. Department of Transportation for interstate moves. Our licensing allows us to legally transport household goods across state lines and ensures we meet the required safety, insurance, and operating standards for professional moving companies.

In addition to our licensing, we carry the proper insurance coverage to protect your belongings while they are in our care. All moves include basic valuation coverage as required by law, and we also offer additional coverage options for customers who want extra protection for high-value items. Our team will explain these options during the estimate so you can choose the level of protection that best fits your move.

Being licensed and insured is one of the most important things to verify when hiring a moving company, especially for long-distance relocations. Working with a properly registered carrier helps ensure accountability, transparent pricing, and professional handling of your shipment from pickup through delivery.

What services are included in my flat fee?

Our flat-rate pricing is designed to give you a clear, all-inclusive cost for your move with no surprises on moving day. When you receive a flat-fee quote from Safebound Moving & Storage, it is based on the inventory, distance, and services discussed during your estimate, and it includes the labor, transportation, and standard moving materials needed to complete your move.

In most cases, the flat fee includes loading and unloading, transportation, basic furniture protection with padded moving blankets and shrink wrap, disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture, and placement of items in your new home according to your instructions. We also include fuel, mileage, and the use of our moving truck and equipment, so you do not have to worry about hidden charges being added later.

If packing services are included in your quote, the flat fee will also cover the agreed-upon packing labor and materials. If storage is part of the move, the estimate will outline the storage period and any applicable fees in advance so you know exactly what is included.

Because every move is different, your flat fee only covers the services listed on your estimate. Additional items, extra packing, long carries, shuttle service, or changes to the inventory may affect the final price, which is why we take time during the quoting process to make sure your estimate is as accurate as possible. Our goal is to provide straightforward pricing so you know exactly what to expect before your move begins.

Do you handle fragile or valuable items?

Yes. Safebound Moving & Storage has extensive experience handling fragile, high-value, and specialty items, and we take extra precautions to ensure they are packed, transported, and delivered safely. Our crews are trained to properly protect delicate belongings such as glassware, artwork, antiques, mirrors, electronics, marble, sculptures, and other items that require careful handling.

We use professional packing materials including padded moving blankets, shrink wrap, custom boxes, and specialty cartons designed for dishes, TVs, artwork, and other sensitive items. When needed, we can also provide custom crating for especially valuable or oversized pieces to give them additional protection during transport.

For customers with high-value furniture or designer pieces, our team follows detailed packing and loading procedures to prevent damage during both local and long-distance moves. Each item is carefully wrapped, labeled, and secured in the truck to minimize shifting while in transit.

If you have items that you are particularly concerned about, we recommend letting us know in advance so we can plan the proper materials, crew size, and equipment for your move. Our goal is to make sure every item — from everyday household goods to your most valuable possessions — arrives in the same condition it left.
